Description
To provide the student with technical training
equivalent to 1A and 1B of the TAFE segment of the
apprenticeship courses for Automotive Heavy Duty
Mechanics, and parts of the Engineering Tradesperson
(Mechanical).
To enhance skill development in all aspects of the trade enabling the student
to equal the level of training of an industrial apprentice who has completed
one year of an apprenticeship.

1 STUDENT HOURS
Due to the commonality of subject content in the
NMCC modules, Subject Nos. 87070 - 87071 will have
117 student hours only in each subject.
2 REMEDIAL ACTION
The primary responsibility for initiating remedial
action necessary in the areas of technical training
related trade subjects rests with the individual
lecturer.
Individual students with substantial literacy and numeracy difficulties may
have the time spent on any subject, other than technical training, reduced by
up to 72 hours (2 hours x 36 weeks) to allow him/her to attend a suitable
course of study.
3 ACCREDITATION
On successful completion of the technical training
section of the course, the student shall be credited
with subjects 1A and 1B of the Automotive Heavy Duty
Mechanic apprenticeship and parts of the Engineering
Tradesperson (Mechanical).
4 SUPPLEMENTARY PRACTICAL SKILLS
Factory and on-site visits should be undertaken when
available and relevant. On-site and on-campus real
work to be undertaken when relevant work available.
5 CERTIFICATE OF PRE-APPRENTICESHIP STUDIES
To be eligible for the Certificate of Pre-
Apprenticeship Studies the student must gain a pass
standard in each subject/module of the certificate.
6 NEW APPRENTICE TRAINING AND ASSESSMENT SCHEME
For an apprentice to be eligible for a
DEPARTMENT OF EMPLOYMENT AND TRAINING TRADE
CERTIFICATE, the apprentice must have achieved
the competencies as determined by the rules of the
appropriate Trade Training Schedule (TTS).
Achievement of College listed competencies for each
apprentice. as listed in the TTS, is to be recorded
on the appropriate Trade Training Schedule
Assessment forms.
The Office of Industrial Training (OIT) will require
a completed College assessment report at the
conclusion of the apprentice's College training.
This report is to be forwarded to OIT prior to the
close of College business in the year of completion.
