Description

The Indigenous Language Worker Program provides Indigenous people with access to an accredited, competency based language training program. The aims of the program are:

- To provide Indigenous people with the necessary skills to organise and run language programs in their own communities

- To assist Indigenous people make informed decisions about their own language and take control of their own language programs

- To develop language workers as trainee linguists with an understanding of the structure of Indigenous languages

- To develop culturally relevant source materials to help language workers to become effective teachers

- To promote an awareness of Indigenous Australian languages and assist in the development of Indigenous Language Programs

- To provide training to Indigenous people who are currently employed in the Education Department language programs, languages centres and other community-based programs/organisations
