Description
To provide the student with technical training equivalent to 1A and 1B of the
TAFE segment of the apprenticeship course in painting and decorating and
carpentry and joinery.
To enhance skill development in all aspects of the trade enabling the student
to equal the level of training of an industrial apprentice who has completed
one year of an apprenticeship.

REMEDIAL ACTION
The primary responsibility for remedial action necessary in the areas of
technical training and related trade subjects rests with individual lecturer.
ACCREDITATION
On successful completion of the technical training section of the course, the
student will be credited with subjects 1A and 1B of the Painting and Decorating
apprenticeship course and the Carpentry and Joinery apprenticeship course.
SUPPLEMENTARY PRACTICAL SKILLS
Site visits should be undertaken when available and relevant. On-site and
on-campus real work to be undertaken when relevant work available.
CERTIFICATE OF PRE-APPRENTICESHIP STUDIES
To be eligible for this award, the student must reach a pass standard in all
subjects in the course.
NEW APPRENTICE TRAINING AND ASSESSMENT SCHEME
(NATAS)
For an apprentice to be eligible for a Western Australian Department of
Training Trade Certificate, the apprentice must have achieved the competencies
as determined by the rules of the appropriate Trade Training Scheme (TTS).
Achievement of college-listed competencies for each
apprentice, as listed in the TTS, is to be recorded on the appropriate Trade
Schedule Assessment forms.
The Office of Industrial Training (OIT) will require a completed College
assessment report at the conclusion of the apprentice's college training. This
report is to be forwarded to OIT prior to the close of college business in the
year of completion to obtain a pass standard in all subjects.
