State Implementation and Classification
Description
To provide the learner with the skills and knowledge to be able to:
-
Describe the structure, operation and importance of the Australian
tourism industry.
-
Conduct a tour in a professional manner demonstrating the principles
of good customer relations and interpersonal skills while applying health and
safety practices and procedures.

Research, prepare and deliver concise, accurate and culturally
sensitive tour commentaries.
-
Apply minimal impact techniques to the conduct of a tour.
-
Acknowledge and incorporate the perspective of Aboriginal and Torres
Strait Islander people into tour guiding activities.

Impart knowledge on flora, fauna, land, ecology and related areas in
an accurate and culturally sensitive manner.

Operate a 4WD and 2WD Tour Vehicle under on and off road driving
conditions.
-
Perform basic maintenance to a 4WD and 2WD tour vehicle.
-
Conduct an extended adventure tour and operate a camp site.
-
Operate a tour within the confines of a Territory or Commonwealth
Managed National Park respecting and acknowledging the perspective of
traditional owners and/or Park Managers.

Training providers who wish to deliver this program must obtain written
approval from the Northern Territory Employment and Training Authority and be
registered by their State accrediting body. Several modules within this course
are also the copyright of the Northern Territory Road Transport Industry
Training Committee Inc. and written approval to use their modules must also be
obtained.
2. The proponent for this course is the NT Tourism Industry Training
Council Inc. The course was originally accredited by the Accreditation and
Advisory Council of the Northern Territory Employment and Training Authority
from 1/1/95 - 31/12/99. It has been placed on the National Register as code
2025.
