State Implementation and Classification
Description
The general aims of the course are to provide:
-an understanding of disease transmission in a salon environment
-practical skills and techniques relevant to services offered by cosmetologists
-product and equipment knowledge
-an understanding of the laws, regulations, Acts, professional associations and
unions governing the profession
-the level of communication skills and awareness of human behaviour needed to
manage the personal contact of cosmetology
-a basic knowledge of the anatomy and function of skin, hair and nails.

2 This course was developed by the Flagstaff College of TAFE (Victoria)
in collaboration with the Beauty Industry Training Advisory Council (BITAC) of
the Wholesale, Retail and Personal Services (WRAPS) Industry Training Board of
Victoria. It has been accredited in Victoria as the 3222HFB Certificate in
Cosmetology until 31/12/1997 and placed on the National Register of Accredited
Courses as Code 0182. The WA Department of Training has been granted
non-exclusive licence by the Office of Training and Further Education (OTFE)
Victoria, to use and reproduce this curriculum for the delivery of this course
within TAFE WA sites until December 31, 1997.
