To develop a critical understanding of the workings
of the media, to stimulate any treatment interest in
countering stereotyping, bias and unfair media.

1 Participate in group sessions with guest speakers. Prepare at least 3
questions and pose 1 question to the guest speaker. Summarise in written form

2 Examine two current events in considerable detail. Identify a number
of different viewpoints, suggesting why a person would hold this viewpoint.

3 Write up a project based on an in-depth study of 2 particular aspects
of the media (ie. advertising, soapies, news, feature stories, short story
(drama). Compare: construction (ie. language style, use of stereotyping, bias),
type of audience, presentation of social issues, educational/entertainment
value, impact 40%

4 Alternate to (2) and (3). Design an appropriate assessment strategy
with a clearly assessable outcome.
