- a basic understanding of techniques used in biochemistry.

- an ability to correctly set up, and use apparatus and
instruments, related to a range of techniques.

- the ability to interpret results obtained, and appreciate
the significance of these results.

- an understanding of some of the techniques in current use,
and their applications.

Internal Assessment

Laboratory work 20 marks

Laboratory reports:

Reports marked ** MUST be submitted 24 marks
Any three other reports 16 marks

Laboratory reports should be chosen from:

Buffers, **Extraction methods, Plant mineral assay,
**Protein assay, **Factors affecting enzyme
activity, Gel filtration, Electrophoresis, HPLC, GC
to show blood alcohol, Automated analyses.

Examination

One two-hour written paper 40%
