Description
To provide students with understanding and practical
skills relating to the selection, construction and
use of map projections of the World as a sphere.

Examination (Divisional) 60%

Examination of two hours' duration, consisting of:

- Ten definitions 15%
- Ten short-answer essays 40%
- Three selections and constructions 20%
- Three computations 25%

A candidate is required to gain at least half of the
possible marks in each of the two components.
Candidates failing one of the components may apply
for a partial exemption from the other which would
remain valid for 12 months thenceforth.

Laboratory Assignments 40%

Four assignments (25 marks each) using available
computergraphic systems and appropriate software to
produce the following small scale Maps of the World,
or parts thereof:

1 Azimuthal class projection in Equatorial or Oblique aspect with title,
protractor and radial scale bar.

2 Rectangular class projection in Transverse or Oblique aspect with
title and multiple scale bars.

3 Conical class projection in Normal aspect of two hemispheres with
title and scale representation.

4 A projection chosen from one of the remaining classes by the candidate
to satisfy the given requirements of a small-scale mapping project.
