Description
To develop a knowledge of the concepts of mental
disorder and mental health.
To identify major classifications of mental
disorders, and examine the relationship between
social environment and mental illness.
To recognise the role of the Welfare Worker, in the
treatment of mental illness.
To identify the services available to those
experiencing mental illness.
To examine the Mental Health Act, and explain the
referral procedures for psychiatric services in WA.

main themes and points of interest. Comments to be
made on how the book was organised, how well it was
researched and how informative it was.
Presentation of Book Review 20%
Students to prepare a two-page summary of the book
reviewed, and lead a small group in a discussion on
the main themes, points of interest and how the book
was organised.
Assessment will be made by peers. Marking key to be
given.

Students will choose four questions from six
Examination questions, which will cover topics
listed in the syllabus.
One two-hour written paper.
