Description
To provide students with an understanding of, and
the practical skills relating to, the safe handling
of micro-organisms so that they:

- understand and use the basic principles, techniques and
equipment involved in the handling and disposal of micro-organisms and culture
media.

- can prepare specialised culture media, and can maintain
cultures of selected micro-organisms.

- are able to use standard methods for the measurement of
microbial growth and estimation of relative abundance of micro-organisms.

- can use appropriate methods to identify a range of
different micro-organisms.
