To provide learners with:
Module 2/5: Oxy-Acetylene Welding and Cutting (Incorporating Soldering and
Brazing)
- An ability to correctly identify oxy-acetylene welding equipment
components and describe their function.
- A detailed knowledge of the areas of application for oxy-acetylene
welding.
- A comprehensive revision of oxy-acetylene welding techniques and
methods.
- A demonstrated ability to correctly select welding tips, cutting
nozzles and gas pressures to carry out:
- Designated welding tasks
- Cutting tasks for steel between 3mm and 12mm thick.
- An ability to correctly clean and maintain oxy-acetylene welding
equipment.
- An ability to undertake a range of welding and thermal cutting tasks
using oxy-acetylene equipment.
- An ability to correctly identify soldering and brazing equipment and
components and describe their function.
- A detailed knowledge of the areas of application for soldering and
brazing.
- A comprehensive practical understanding of soldering and brazing
techniques and methods.
- A demonstrated ability to correctly select soldering tips, solder,
fluxes, brazing rods (for a range of applications) and gas pressures to carry
out:
- Designated soldering and brazing tasks
- Brazing tasks for ferrous and non-ferrous metals.
- An ability to correctly clean and maintain soldering and brazing
equipment.
- An ability to undertake a range of soldering and brazing tasks using
appropriate equipment.
- A detailed knowledge of the hazards inherent in welding, soldering and
brazing and the means of reducing and/or eliminating these hazards.
- A detailed knowledge of the safety clothing and equipment required for
welding, soldering and brazing.
