Internal Assessment 100%
Students are assessed on a PASS/FAIL basis.
Students must complete 152 hours of fieldwork
placement before being eligible for assessment. A
fieldwork manual specifies criteria to be used by
agency supervisors to assess the student's
performance.
The TAFE staff is responsible for the student's final assessment.

Prior to placement, orientation tutorials are held
and during placement students may attend weekly
support tutorials.
Students are required to initiate and conduct at
least three activities whilst on placement. These
must be appropriate to the developmental needs of
the client group and appropriate in format to the
particular care setting. These are evaluated by
TAFE staff and/or agency supervisor.
A fieldwork manual specifies the criteria to be used
by agency supervisors to assess the student's
overall performance whilst on placement. Liaison
visits by TAFE staff to students on placement serve
to clarify the adequacy of the student's final
performance.
Although there will be broad discussion between TAFE staff and agency
supervisor with regard to the competency of the student, the TAFE staff is
responsible for the student's final assessment.
A failed placement by be repeated, the repeat
placement must be in the same/similar care setting
and this is at the discretion of the TAFE staff. A
second failure will constitute a fail in the course.
