To introduce learners to agencies and organisations providing residential
services to young people.
To provide an opportunity for learners to identify and practise skills needed,
as a worker in a residential setting for working with young people.
To introduce learners to knowledge, philosophies, policies and issues relevant
to working in residential services for young people.
To provide an opportunity for learners to demonstrate work habits appropriate
to working in residential services for young people.
To provide an opportunity for learners to integrate theory knowledge and skills
encountered in classroom-based modules with practical work situations.

Range of Variables
1 During the term of the two Fieldwork Placements undertaken in
Certificate IV of Human Services (Youth Residential), learners must complete
one Fieldwork Placement in a Juvenile Detention Centre.
2 Learners should be placed in an agency, organisation or program
providing residential services to young people.
3 Close liaison should be maintained between field supervisors,
fieldwork co-ordinators and fieldwork tutors.
4 Close liaison should be maintained between fieldwork tutors and
fieldwork learners.
5 Learners should be given an opportunity to experience as much
“hands-on” work with young people using services as possible.
6 Ethical practice should be maintained and emphasised in all aspects of
fieldwork.
7 Guidelines for TAFE Human Services learners undertaking fieldwork
placements as outlined in the Fieldwork Placement Manual should be adhered to
at all times.
