Description
To provide learners with an understanding of how procedural learning can
contribute to the ongoing development of workers who operate in residential
settings (both open and secure).
To provide learners with an understanding of the role of experiential learning
in the provision of an effective service to youth in a residential setting
(both open and secure), and more specifically, to provide learners with the
skills and knowledge required by workers to develop, present, and evaluate
appropriate experiential learning opportunities for their clients whilst in a
residential setting (both open and secure).

Range of Variables
This module should be delivered in a group workshop format that models the
experiential learning approach. There should be opportunities for learners to
put into practice skills and knowledge being learned. The group should ideally
consist of no more than 20 participants so that each learner’s individual
requirements can be met.
Delivery methods for this module are to be off-the-job, and may include
traditional lecture format in conjunction with practical learning exercises.
Where practical, on-the-job assessment during fieldwork could also be
appropriate for this module.
Successful completion of this module requires an understanding of basic group
dynamics and interpersonal communication.
