To provide a sound foundation in Applied
Thermodynamic Principles appropriate to operational
applications.

To provide the appropriate educational requirements for the subject area,
specified in the Uniform Shipping Laws Code, to the rank of Engineer
Watchkeeper.

To prepare the Engineer for the subject Operational
Thermodynamics 2A.

Project reports and assignments to be submitted
covering topics from: Heat, Expansion, Steam, Steam
Turbines, Combustion, Refrigeration and Air
Conditioning.

A one-and-a-half hour first examination covering: Units and Common Terms,
Temperature and Heat, Expansion and Contraction of Solids, Liquids and Gases,
Steam and Steam Tables.

A three-hour final examination covering: Steam
Cycles, Steam Turbines, Boilers, Fuel Combustion,
Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Cycles.

A pass in all assessment components is required to
pass the subject.
