Description
To foster the feeling of pride in identity embodied
by the traditional Aboriginal dance tutors as the
original inhabitants of this country.
To identify and execute one of two traditional
Aboriginal dances selected for study and retention,
namely: the Bardi dances from Lombadina, the Gnyambi
from the South-West.
To develop awareness of a number of basic principles
of traditional Aboriginal dance:
- strongly in touch with the earth
- in touch with natural phenomena: animals, elements, forces
- in touch with inner self
- personal flair and technique must serve the overall
significance of the dance.
To focus on animal studies: students to work with
the portrayal of specific bird or animal, etc.
To initiate students in the application of body
paint and costume decoration required for the
selected dances.
