Description
To enable learners to perform calculations concerned with the mechanical
properties of materials as they relate to problems of strength and stability of
structures and mechanical components.
To expand the material introduced in 41416 CE Strength of Materials and prepare
learners for subsequent modules of an applied nature.

Range of Variables
This module contains learning outcomes that require theory instruction under
standard classroom conditions. The theory component will be assessed at the
end of the instructional period when learners are required to sit for a closed
book theory test.
The practical component will be assessed by appropriate laboratory reports. It
is necessary to pass individually the practical component and the theory
component to pass the module.
