Description
As a summative unit, this subject aims, through a
series of student-designed training workshops:
- to give students practical experience in designing and
constructing a training workshop, which will assist fellow students to
consolidate past learning, and integrate new resource and service information.
- to provide students with the opportunity to identify
client needs, demonstrate problem-solving strategies, and formulate a range of
options within various casework scenarios.
- to allow students to consolidate their knowledge of the
role of Welfare Workers in a variety of settings.

Students are required to research and present a
Training Session Workshop on an assigned case study.
The Training Session should include:
- specific information on resources and services in the
following areas:
o Stress Management
o Client/Worker Relationships
o Death and Suicide
o Dealing with Anger.
- the manner in which the Welfare role should be approached.
Students may use video, overhead projections, group
activities and pamphlets to enhance their
presentation.
Discussion
The presenting students must lead and encourage
discussion in:
- Issues
- Ethical dilemmas
- Adequacy or gaps in services.
Program and Registration 10%
The presenting students must design a program and
registration, which will include:
- Background information
- Summary of relevant points
- Resources and services covered in the seminar.
Report 20%
Presenting students must WRITE a formal
report on their seminar, to include:
- a summary of the presentation
- aims and objectives of the presentation
- assessment of the discussion
- analysis of own performance
- summary of peer analysis.
Examination
End-of-semester examination of two hours'
duration 30%
The examination will be comprised of a case study
from which students will list the resources,
information and assistance to meet the clients'
needs.
