To provide students with the ability to:
- explain the terminology used in procedures which involve
selection and culture of selected cells and tissues.
- carry out common techniques used in cell and tissue
culture.
- explain how these techniques apply to current use in
research, commerce and clinical laboratories.

Internal Assessment
- Assignments/Reports 40%
o One report on algal culture 15 marks o One report on
animal cell culture 35 marks o One report on plant cell +
tissue cultures 35 marks o One report on
fungal and/or viral culture 15 marks o
Laboratory Work 20%
Students will be assessed on their laboratory work
throughout the course. Assessment will involve
rating - neatness, organisation and hand skills:
- aseptic technique and safety consciousness
- ability to interpret and carry out written and verbal
instructions
- correct and confident use of all equipment.
Examination
One two-hour examination
