Description
To develop further the student's knowledge of the
soil as an ecosystem.

To introduce the origin and development of soils.

To develop knowledge of the chemistry of
fertilisers, and their effect on plant growth and
growing media.

To further develop knowledge and understanding of
soil air, soil water and their importance to the
soil ecosystem.

To provide an understanding of the control a
horticulturist can have over a growing media, in
order to:

- improve the growing media
- maintain conditions in a growing media
- conserve growing media.
