Description
To enable the student to develop an understanding of
the environment in which the planning and provision
of new health services buildings in Western
Australia takes place.
To enable the student to identify the main stages in
the planning process and the sequence of events in a
major building project.
To enable the student to gain a knowledge of the
planning organisation, its committee structure and
composition and to identify the roles of
participants at various stages in the planning
process and the lines of communication between them.
To enable the student to prepare submissions for
funds and planning permission and to conduct
feasibility studies and determine the extent of the
community's needs for health services.
To enable the student to appreciate the principles
of functional planning and the significance of
functional relationships and prepare a functional
brief and distinguish between this and other
briefing methods.
To enable the student to distinguish between block
diagrams, sketches, plans and other forms of
communication used by the design team and to
appreciate the use to which each is put at various
stages in the planning process. To enable the
student to determine the administrative procedures
necessary to ensure that such documents are properly
processed, evaluated, corrected or approved.
To enable the student to appreciate the nature and
role of contract documents in the tendering and
construction phases and to distinguish between
various tendering procedures and methods of contract
management.
To enable the student to identify the roles of specialist consultants, main
contractors and sub- contractors at various stages in the planning and
construction process.
To enable the student to consider the main
requirements of an efficient commissioning program
for a new hospital building and to appreciate the
factors to be considered in selecting equipment,
furniture, fittings and finishes.
To enable the student to identify the main features
of an evaluation program and to determine how such a
program should be carried out and when and to select
the key members of an evaluation team.
