To provide the learner with the knowledge and skills to

This module is designed to be provided off-the-job. Delivery can be effected
by a variety of modes.

Regardless of delivery mode, the minimum time to complete this module is
approximately 9 weeks to ensure adequate time for skill acquisition and
inter-module reinforcement. Learners should anticipate up to two hours per
week additional study to complete self-test worksheets, reports and general
revision.

As this module has a significant laboratory component, delivery strategies must
ensure integration of knowledge and laboratory skills. In adopting a
particular delivery strategy, it is important to establish the entry
characteristics (particularly employment status) of the learners. Learners with
concurrent workplace experience should be considered for recognition of prior
learning, and teaching strategies adjusted accordingly. For example, learners
