Description
To teach the principle of operation, causes of
faults, testing and diagnostic skills, related to
components and assemblies of typical industrial
plant. Communication skills and interpersonal relationships in the work
environment, are included.

To provide practical skill development, to
supplement employer training.

Internal Practical Assessment 100%

Examination will consist of one paper, at the
completion of the three-week block of training.

The examination is to be of two hours' duration, and
will comprise of:

Thirty objective type questions 30 marks
Fourteen short essay type questions 70 marks

Practical - The practical mark is to be an
assessment of the student's attitude, involvement,
and interest, displayed in theory, demonstration,
and practical sessions, throughout each stage of
training, and is to be expressed as a percentage.

NOTE: Practical objectives throughout this syllabus, indicate the tasks
which will be carried out during practical training sessions. It is not
intended that all students be individually assessed in each practical objective.

Formula - Exam mark is to be the
certificate percentage mark.

Certificate of Trade Studies

To be eligible for this certificate, an apprentice
must reach a pass standard in the certificate
percentage for each stage, and must have passed the
practical assessment for each stage.

A failure to reach a pass standard in the
certificate percentage in this stage, may be
redeemed by a pass in a Supplementary Examination.

Supplementary Examination

May be granted on the recommendation of a Board of
Review, when the practical assessment is
satisfactory.

The supplementary examination will be conducted in the January/February of the
following year.

The examination will consist of a two-hour paper,
consisting of:

Thirty multi-choice type questions 30%
Fourteen essay type questions 70%

Students granted a supplementary examination, will
not be required to repeat the three-week period of
training.
