Description
To provide learners with sufficient knowledge to work safely in the laboratory
and use a variety of routine basic skills employed in general science
laboratories.
Range of Variables
This module can be delivered on-the-job but requires a full range of basic
laboratory facilities. The content involves significant practical skills and
thus access to adequate resources and time is a fundamental requirement.
Evidence Guide
This module is designed to develop sound laboratory skills. The initial focus
of this module’s assessment is on formative instruments. In particular,
practical observations, oral questioning and logbooks all provide mechanisms
for rapid feedback during the course of the module. Written assignments are
used to develop the accurate use of terminology, calculation skills and the
ability to relate skills to laboratory practice.

This module is designed to develop and encourage individual responsibility to
create and operate in a safe and efficient working environment.
