Description
Part A: Marine Fitting
To provide theoretical and practical training in the
maintenance and repair of mechanical power
transmission equipment.
Part B: Shipwrighting
To provide theoretical training in aspects of light
marine as applied to small and medium boats
(including pleasure craft) in the repair,
construction and servicing of these craft.
To supplement employer provided practical skills in
the above areas.
To provide theoretical and practical training in the
maintenance and repair of mechanical power
transmission equipment.
Part B: Shipwrighting
To provide theoretical training in aspects of light
marine as applied to small and medium boats
(including pleasure craft) in the repair,
construction and servicing of these craft.
To supplement employer provided practical skills in
the above areas.

Theory
Examinations to consist of objective and short answer essay questions. Total
marks for each examination to be expressed as a percentage. Formulae for
calculation of theory mark for Certificate of Trade Studies to be averaged
between Part A and Part B.
Practical
It is recommended that students carry out the listed practical objectives (P)
to reinforce the lesson material. The evaluation of student performance with
practical projects being a guide to the effectiveness of the lesson program.
The practical mark is to be an assessment of the
student's attitude, involvement and interest
displayed in demonstration and practical sessions
throughout each stage of training and is to be
expressed as a percentage.
(P) has completed the task in a training situation.
Progressive assessment of practical to incorporate
aspects of the apprentice's:
- practical hand skill development
- application to task (as reflected in the number of
practical projects satisfactorily completed)
- correct use of equipment and safe working practices.
Total marks for assessment of practical to be
expressed as a percentage and be averaged between
Part A and Part B.
Privileged Re-Examination
Privileged examinations for individual parts are not
available. A student who fails Stage 3A theory may be granted a
Privileged Re-Examination where the Stage 3A practical result is satisfactory.
The privileged examination will be of 3 hours duration and will include
questions from the content of both Parts A and B.
There is no privileged re-examination for practical.
