To provide learners with a knowledge of a range of macromolecules relating to
cell function and the way in which their properties can be exploited in
qualitative and quantitative analysis. In terms of skill development,
Biochemistry II explains and applies quantitative and qualitative analytical
techniques used in the assay of compounds of biological significance.
This module builds on knowledge and skills introduced in Biochemistry I. It is
the first module in the cluster of biochemistry, clinical chemistry and
analytical instrumentation modules that requires the learner to obtain, compute
and report a result to a required level of accuracy.

Range of Variables
This module is designed to be delivered off-the-job. As it has a significant
practical focus, theory and practical work should be integrated. The module
should be scheduled over 18 weeks (or a semester) but for block release the
module should be scheduled in no less than 10 weeks. Learners should anticipate
up to an extra 3 hours study per week for the standard semester, to cover
assignments, reports, completion of calculations and personal revision.
