To provide learners with the skills and knowledge to be able to safely carry out routine shipboard operations and procedures.

Range of Variables
This module is designed to be taught off-the-job. However, it is expected that candidates will have on-the-job seagoing experience covering a proportion of the learning outcomes. This module will be delivered in full-time mode including classroom lectures, interaction sessions, a simulated worksite and the use of guest speakers from industry and the State Occupational Health and Safety authority.
This module is designed on the assumption that most of the learners will achieve the learning outcomes specified in the allocated nominal duration.
Delivery strategies should be selected to reflect the nature of the learning outcomes and the needs of the learners.

A range of methods is suggested for measuring progress towards and achievement of learning outcomes in this module.
Knowledge-based criteria will be satisfied through written responses to structured questions and restricted response objective test and written or oral questioning relating to practical assignments.
Skill-based criteria will be satisfied through appropriate practical assignments and practical demonstrations, practical exercises and role plays throughout the learning period.
