To acquaint students with the history
of Mediterranean and Far Eastern
Ceramics.
To acquire and use a critical vocabulary for the understanding, appreciation
and appraisal of ancient and historical ceramics.
To recognise and name characteristic
forms and decorative
elements/techniques; and recognise ways
in which they may be adapted for
educational and/or aesthetic ends.
To recognise and appraise the evolution
of style within cultures and
cross-culturally.
To critically analyse ceramics, in terms of decoration, form, the relationships
of form and decoration and the aesthetic whole.
To use appropriate terms for such
analyses. To assess the effects of social, geographical, etc factors on
the development of ceramics.
To assess the effects of new
technologies on the development of
