Description
To provide the learner with the knowledge and skills to safely and accurately
perform routine analysis and the basic maintenance associated with infra-red
spectrophotometers.
This module is at an introductory level and the basic skills will be further
developed in later modules.

Range of Variables
This module has the capacity to be delivered either on-the-job or by a variety
of modes off-the-job.
For full-time learners, the module hours should be ideally sequenced over a
semester period to ensure adequate time for skills acquisition and intermodule
reinforcement. In order to facilitate learner access to specialist
instruments, providers should consider the option of running several
instrumentation modules in parallel, thereby enabling small numbers of learners
to access instruments as required.
Where delivery is via block release, learners require prior access to open
learning materials covering all theoretical and safety aspects of infra-red
spectrophotometry.
