To provide a sound foundation in Naval Architecture
Theory appropriate to maritime applications.
To provide the appropriate educational requirements
for the subject area, specified in the Uniform
Shipping Laws Code, to the rank of First Class
Marine Engineer.

Project reports and assignments to be submitted
covering topics such as Inclining Experiment, Free
Surface Effect, Shift In Mass, Large Angle
Stability, Bilging. Students will be required to
complete an assignment related to stability and trim
of a ship.
A three-hour final examination covering areas such
as Hydrostatic, Displacement, Centres of Flotation
and Buoyancy, using Simpson's Rules, Parallel Axis
Theorem, Inclining Experiment, Wall-Sided Stability,
Free Surface Effect, Large Angle Stability, Cross-
Curves of Stability, Hydrostatic Data, GZ Curves,
Change in Draught and Trim Due to Mass Changes,
Change in Water Density and Bilging.
A pass in both assessment components is required to
achieve a pass in the subject.
