Description
This unit specifies the sourcing and purchasing/ordering materials/parts for installation or service jobs relevant to a work function.as part of the normal way of doing work in Australia.

This unit is for holders of an Offshore Technical Skills Record (OTSR) or Australian Technical Competencies Statement (ATCS) issued by an RTO and incorporates the minimum context gap to meet Australian standards and regulations.

This unit shall only be undertaken by holders of an OTSR or ATCS for the following qualifications or successors of the following qualifications:
- UEE30820 Certificate III in Electrotechnology Electrician
- UEE32220 Certificate III in Refrigeration & Air-Conditioning

Elements and Performance Criteria
1. Establish the extent of the materials to be purchased
  • 1.1 Work Health and Safety (WHS) procedures for the given work area are obtained from work supervisor according to established procedures
  • 1.2 Instruction in hazards and risk control measures for specific work functions and work areas are identified and obtained
  • 1.3 The extent of installation or service work is determined from job specifications, drawings or results of service calls
  • 1.4 Materials required for the work are determined from job specifications or requirements resulting from service calls
  • 1.5 Materials or parts required are documented in accordance with established routine procedures
2. Source and purchase materials
  • 2.1 Sources of materials are obtained based on availability and price using catalogues, computers and/or telephone in accordance with established routine procedures
  • 2.2 Approval to purchase materials or parts is obtained in writing from the customer and/or other authorised person in accordance with established routine procedures
  • 2.3 Purchases are initiated based on price and availability of materials/parts within the required timeframe and in accordance with established routine procedures
3. Document material purchases
  • 3.1 Material or part purchases are allocated against the actual jobs
  • 3.2 Material or part purchases are documented in accordance with established routine procedures including prices, GST and delivery costs
