Description
Through a series of lectures, films and
agency visits, students will be
introduced to the two related areas of
the family and children.
Students should develop a theoretical
understanding of the family demography,
sociology, history phenomenology and
legal aspects. The role of women will
be given special prominence.
Students should develop a good
knowledge of the services and benefits
available to families in Western
Australia.
Students should develop a knowledge of the needs of children and how these
needs can be met inside and outside of the family. Students will be introduced
to the main areas where problems develop in childhood through emotional
problems, family breakdown and child abuse. The problem of delinquency will be
looked at in detail. The law as it relates to children, especially through the
Child Welfare Act, will be considered. Students should develop a good
knowledge of these services and institutions which serve the community with
regard to children.
