Description
This unit describes the performance outcomes, skills and knowledge required to examine a contemporary issue impacting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples.
It requires the ability to gather and present information about a contemporary issue impacting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples.
The unit applies to individuals who want to examine a contemporary issue impacting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples.
This unit recognises that there is no single Aboriginal culture and that Aboriginal individuals and communities are diverse. Protocols must therefore be identified according to the local context. In this unit the term Aboriginal is used in keeping with the current policy of the NSW Government and the NSW Aboriginal Education Consultative Group Incorporated. Indigenous Australians is the collective term used by the Commonwealth Government to refer to Aboriginal people and Torres Strait Islander people.
Educators need to confirm what terminology is accepted by local communities and must demonstrate sensitivity to Aboriginal issues and cultures.
Aboriginality is a requirement for trainers who deliver this unit because the cultural knowledge required will only be known to Aboriginal people.
No occupational licensing, certification or specific legislative requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication.
