This subject aims to:
- provide advanced knowledge of thermodynamics appropriate
to operational applications.
- provide the appropriate educational requirements for the
subject area, specified in the uniform Shipping Laws Code, to the rank of First
Class Marine Engineer.

Project reports and assignments are required to be
submitted covering the areas of steam turbine cycle
efficiency and combustion. It will be necessary for
students to complete a thermal balance of a steam
power station.
A three-hour final examination covering Heat,
Thermodynamic Principles, Properties and Expansion
of Steam, Mixtures of Gases and Vapours, Steam
Cycles, Boilers and Evaporators, Steam Turbines and
Combustion.
A pass in both assessment components is required to achieve a pass for the
subject.
