To provide Pool Lifeguards with a standard level of training and knowledge
required for them to take responsibility for the safety of users of swimming
pools through:
-pool surveillance
-development of appropriate emergency procedures and rescue techniques

Assessment in this course is competency based in that the candidates will be
required to demonstrate competence in each of the sections of the course.
The examination performance criteria are clearly stated and it is the
responsibility of the Approved Trainer to design appropriate assessments for
each of these performance criteria. A broad range of appropriate assessment
strategies will be adopted to test knowledge, skills and attitudes and will
include on-going assessment of practical work, assignments, recognition tests,
study projects and end of course testing.
Assessment results will be issued at the completion of the course.
