Description
To extend the student's knowledge of map
projections.
To revise the student's knowledge of the use of international and national
mapping systems, and enable the student to:
- select and construct map projections
- construct maps on the Australian Map Grid
- calculate positions and determine relationships on the

Two examinations 80%
Internal Assessment 20%
A candidate is required to gain at least 50% of the
possible marks in each of the three components.
Candidates failing only one of the components may
apply for a partial exemption from the other two
which would remain valid for 12 months henceforth.
Examination
Theory examination of two hours' duration
(Divisional) 40%
Computations Examination 40%
A two-hour examination of computational ability
using both computer systems and non-programmable
calculators.
Laboratory Assignments 20%
Two assignments (50 marks each) using available
computergraphic systems and appropriate software to
produce the following small-scale maps of the world
or parts thereof:
1 An interrupted and re-centred Pseudo-Cylindrical projection in Normal
aspect with annotation and scale bar(s).
2 An Azimuthal, Rectangular, or Conical class projection in other than
Normal aspect with scale distortions portrayed by ellipses of deformation
(Tissot's Indicatrices) and suitably annotated.
