To enable the student to master the word processing
applications of creating, formatting, editing,
saving and printing single and multi-page documents
from typescript or manuscript (without the use of

OPERATING PRINCIPLES PROFILE
Students to apply word processing principles to
answer twenty questions in ten minutes based on this
syllabus.
PRACTICAL PAPER 70%
A practical, open book, Divisional Assessment of
one-and-a-half (1.5) hour's duration on the
application of word processing procedures contained
in this syllabus. Printing may be completed outside
the time allocation.
General Requirements
Question 1
This question is to be a multi-page
document (simply formatted document) of between
250-300 words in double-line spacing (approximately
one-and-a-half pages) to be:
- keyed in, paginated (no headers or footers) and printed,
and
- copied, edited and reprinted in a different format.
Question 2
This question is to be one of the
following:
- A third part to Question 1, where the document is copied a third time,
the format again changed and some text, such as a small table, added. (Some
text may need to be deleted or moved, to ensure the total document content
makes sense)
OR
- A short letter (single-page/single-spaced) to be keyed-in correctly
and printed (no editing)
OR
- A memo (single-page/single-spaced) to be keyed- in correctly and
printed (no editing) - going to one person only
OR
- A table consisting of: four columns (maximum); decimal tab to at least
one column (maximum two); two to three-line main heading; no vertical lines;
horizontal lines (if required); six lines in table maximum (excluding document
headings) - to be keyed-in correctly and printed (no editing)
OR
- A display using a variety of presentation styles
(containing approximately 100 words) to be keyed-in correctly and printed (no
editing).
STANDARD COMPETENCY CHECKLIST 10%
Students to be given a copy of the Standard
Competency Checklist at the beginning of the course.
They are to be continuously assessed on the
performance of these competencies in the classroom
at the lecturer's discretion.
The purpose of the checklist is for the participant
to be assessed on the performance criteria as
required by this syllabus. Please see the Standard
Competency Checklist form attached to the end of
this syllabus document.
