diesel engines, marine transmissions,
instrumentation, water pumps and hydraulic systems.

Theory:

Examinations to consist of objective and short answer essay questions. Total
mark for examination to be expressed as a percentage.

Practical:

It is recommended that students carry out the listed practical objectives (P)
to reinforce the lesson material. The evaluation of student performance with
practical projects being a guide to the effectiveness of the lesson programme.

The practical mark is to be an assessment of the
students attitude, involvement and interest
displayed in demonstration and practical sessions
throughout each stage of training and is to be
expressed as a percentage.

(P) has completed the task in a training situation.

Progressive assessment of practical to incorporate
aspects of the apprentices:

- Practical hand skill development.

- Application to task (as reflected in the number of
practical projects satisfactorily completed).

- Correct use of equipment and safe working practices.

Total marks for assessment of practical to be
expressed as a percentage.

Privileged Re-Examination:

A student who fails Stage 3B theory may be granted a
Privileged Re-Examination where the Stage 3B
practical result is satisfactory. The privileged
examination will be of 2 hours duration and will
include questions from the content of Stage 3B.

There is no privileged re-examination for practical.
