Description
Upon satisfactory completion of the
subject, the student should be able to:

- Communicate in an informed manner on matters of
electronics and "mechatronics application" with technicians and engineers in
electrical and electronics engineering.

- Identify commonly used electrical and electronic
components and to briefly explain their function in a circuit.

- Given a simple industrial situation, e.g. control
switching, counting, sensing on x-y machine slide motion, be able to devise a
solution, produce a block diagram based on components selected from a catalogue
and to explain the operation of the system proposed.

Internal Assessment 30%

One two hour examination.

Laboratory assessment may be carried forward one year. A
minimum of four laboratory reports are to be written in
line with the standard formal report writing procedures of
the study area.

The laboratory sessions should be based on:

- Counting and display
- Sensors and transducers
- Digital motor speed control
- Programmable motion control using a PC and stepping
motor

A pass is required in both the examination and laboratory
components.
