To teach the basic features of a multi-user
operating system (e.g. UNIX) through hands-on
experience.

To provide knowledge and skills which support use of installed software (e.g.
PASCAL, COBOL, C, 4GL).

To train students in the proper use of computer
system manuals for the purpose of transferring
skills from one multi-user operating system to
