Description
To provide the learner with a practically oriented introduction to the
provision of support facilities for geological field work, emphasising camp
organisation, expedition planning and field skills.

Mixed mode through face-to-face classroom delivery and a field camp.

In relation to this module the following general competencies must be
demonstrated:
- make and record accurate observations
- make reliable measurements
- accurately record data
- assemble and use required equipment
- store equipment in an organised, clean and serviceable manner
- define and give examples of the terminology relevant to the module
- express verbally or in writing any procedures incorporated in this
module
- be cognisant of safety regulations that apply to the working
environment
- be able to assess a situation and recognise hazards
- be able to describe and implement correct work practices in order to
minimise risk
- to maintain and seek ways to improve work standards
- adopt appropriate interpersonal behaviour and appropriate work
practices.

A pass mark must be obtained on each of the following:
Class exercises:
- Written practical exercises, recording and projects 25%
Field exercises:
- Oral or written details of practical exercises,
demonstrations or projects 25%
Field log book:
- Completion of field log book 25%
Theory test:
- Test or tests covering all material in the module.
Questions to take the form of multiple choice,
short answers and paragraph length answers 25%
The minimum pass mark for each section is 70%.
