Description
To provide learners with the general techniques necessary to interpret
competently at para-professional level (formerly NAATI Level 2) in Australia.
The module emphasises the practical skills of transferring verbal and
non-verbal messages and information from one language into another and
vice-versa, in different contexts. It emphasises that effective transfer of
these messages and information involves the management skills of preparation,
education and evaluation. The generic skills of communication relevant to the
task of interpreting are identified and delineated. The professional delivery
of interpreting services takes place within ethical parameters and learners
must demonstrate a clear understanding of their role, ethics, responsibilities
and rights to successfully complete this module.
