Description
The purpose of this module is to provide training in
the use of the C language to develop programs to the
extent of handling sequential files and elementary
variables.
Participants may choose typical applications from business or technical areas
according to their vocational focus.
On successful completion of the module, participants
will be able to design, code, enter, compile, test
and run simple standard C programs.

Participants will demonstrate their competency by an
assessment based 30% on two assignments covering:
- simple programming exercises involving numeric
calculations, and formatted screen input and output
- the design, coding, testing and execution of a modularised
program using sequential file I/O
and 70% on a 2 hour supervised examination covering:
- use of the compiler; data representation; arithmetic
expressions; and control structures
- designing solutions to problems that are best solved using
modular design of programs
- describing the actions of a given program
- coding a program given a design.
