To introduce students to the main types of written
communication in welfare work.

To equip students with effective written
communication skills.

To allow students to practise written communication
skills in a variety of welfare contexts.

Internal Assessment 100%

Using role-plays and case studies, students should
be given time in class to practise their written
communication skills.

Agency Record 20%

Students are required to:

- develop a recording system for client contact and data
collection

- implement that system in an agency-setting, using a
role-play in class, which is compatible with current State and Commonwealth
programs.

Letter-Writing 30%

Using detailed case studies, students are required
to write letters to:

- a trust fund (e.g. The Wearne Trust) requesting financial
assistance for a client

- a creditor negotiating a debt on behalf of a client.

Social History 40%

Using detailed case studies, students are required
to prepare:

- a general social history of a client

- a specific social history to be used as a court report.

Referral 10%

Through the use of a role-play in class, students
must write a referral letter for a client to an
appropriate agency/organisation.
