This module is designed to be taught through practical self-assessed exercises in an approved simulator, with minimal classroom contact, however, it is expected that learners will have on-the-job seagoing experience covering a proportion of the learning outcomes. This module will be delivered in full-time mode.

This module is designed on the assumption that most of the learners will achieve the learning outcomes specified in the allocated nominal duration.

Delivery strategies should be selected to reflect the nature of the learning outcomes and the needs of the candidates.

Delivery strategies should build on the existing knowledge of the learner. Some areas of content may be common to more than one learning outcome, and thus integration may be appropriate which may reduce the nominal hours.

Internal Assessment

A range of methods is suggested for measuring progress towards and achievement of learning outcomes in this module.

Knowledge-based criteria will be satisfied through an end-of-course closed book written examination and written or oral questioning relating to practical assignments.

Skill-based criteria will be satisfied through appropriate practical assignments throughout the learning period.

Assessment will be undertaken using an approved simulator and the training vessel to provide a 'real workplace' environment.

Testing will be undertaken without assistance given access to all necessary documents relating to the subject matter and relevant tables and calculation data.
