To introduce learners to urban conservation issues and concepts in design. It
provides learners with the opportunity to develop skills to enable them to
satisfy the urban conservation controls of local and state governments and to
understand their underlying principles, process and technology.

Range of Variables
-Classroom presentation of material illustrated by colour transparencies and
overheads on screen/whiteboard in a tutorial environment or interaction CD ROM
on PC. Discussion based on practical examples.
-Site visits to urban conservation areas and urban conservation projects in
progress.
-Specialist lectures by visiting expert urban planners, historians,
conservation architects and community activists experienced with urban
conservation areas.

Evidence Guide
Learners will be required to demonstrate achievement of this learning outcome
by assessment of the outline urban conservation analysis report submitted.
-Access to relevant textbooks, planning scheme maps, and legislation from the
prescribed reading list
-Access to a relevant colour transparency library, audio-visual and overhead
projection equipment, personal computers and whiteboard/screen facilities
-Use of a quiet seminar room (separate from the drafting studio)
-Availability of specialist lecturers
-Use of camera and processing facilities.
