Description
To make the participant aware of water-related-environmental issues and to
introduce them to some strategies for developing clean waterways.
On completion of this module, the participant should be able to:
- differentiate between water, storm water, sewerage and trade waste and
their disposal
- identify common causes of waterway pollution and give examples of
alternative methods of disposal.
- identify social, economic and environmental benefits of sound waste
minimisation practices.
- comply with relevant regulatory requirements as these apply to the
participant’s day-to-day life.

Assessment is the gathering of evidence of successful performance.
The assessment should focus on the learning outcome not on individual
assessment criteria. Assessment criteria are indicators of successful
performance of the learning outcome.
A holistic approach to assessment is desirable, ie. a single assessment
instrument may assess more than one learning outcome. For example, a workplace
project may assess both the planning and execution of a task(s).
Examples of assessment instruments include, but are not restricted to:
- practical demonstration/tests
- observation checklists
- oral questioning
- short answer written tests
- written assignments
- projects
- portfolios
- peer assessment
- simulations
Results will be expressed as Pass (P) or Not Complete (NC).
The competencies apply to workplace activities associated with a safe and
healthy work environment and maintenance of effective practices to maintain the
environment.
Work may involve individual and team-related activities.
Manuals and specifications include:
- environment protection annual reports and manuals
- case studies
- newspaper reports
