Description
To provide the apprentice with a working knowledge of the safety requirements,
handtools and equipment, used in the Engine Reconditioning Industry.
To provide apprentices with a sound theoretical knowledge, and to supplement

A pass in BOTH is required.
Theory
Examination will consist of one paper at the completion of the three-week block
of training. The examination is to be of two hours' duration, and will
comprise:
Seventy objective type questions
- 1 mark each 70 marks
Five short-answer essays
- 6 marks each (choice from
seven) 30 marks
Practical Assessment
Each student is to be continuously assessed upon the practical training carried
out in the workshop. Students are not to be graded in percentage terms, but
are to be classified as "Achieved Required Practical Skills" once they have
satisfactorily completed all the applicable practical student objectives in the
syllabus.
Students who do not satisfactorily complete the applicable practical student
objectives are to be classified as "Has NOT Achieved Required Practical Skills".
NOTE: Apprentices are to be given all possible opportunities to repeat
practical objectives which they have failed to achieve.
Certificate of Trade Studies
To be eligible for this certificate, an apprentice must reach a pass standard
in the certificate percentage for each subject, AND be classified as "Achieved
Required Practical Skills" for each subject.
Privileged Re-Examination
May be granted on the recommendation of a Board of Review when the practical
assessment is satisfactory.
NOTE: A separate privileged re-examination will not normally be set.
Students granted a privileged re-examination, will be required to sit for the
applicable stage examination in the training block of the following year. They
will not be required to attend the three-week period of training.
