Description
This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to apply carry out rig lease operations in drilling. It prepares individuals to provide assistance to tasks including running and recovery of blow out prevention (BOP) stack, loading and unloading equipment and making up drilling mud.It applies to those working in operational roles. They generally work under supervision to undertake a prescribed range of functions involving known routines and procedures.Licensing, legislative and certification requirements that apply to this unit can vary between states, territories, and industry sectors. Users must check requirements with relevant body before applying the unit.

Elements and Performance Criteria
1. Prepare for rig lease operations
  • 1.1 Obtain, interpret and confirm work requirements
  • 1.2 Access, interpret and apply documentation required for carrying out rig lease operations and confirm work activity is compliant
  • 1.3 Identify and minimise environmental issues and potential hazards, and assess and address risks within scope of own role and according to workplace procedures
  • 1.4 Select and wear personal protective equipment required for work activities
  • 1.5 Communicate with other personnel at site as required and confirm briefings and handover details are communicated and received
  • 1.6 Place and tier tubular in racks and prepare tubular and coil tubing strings as required according to workplace procedures
  • 1.7 Measure, label and record tubular according to workplace procedures
  • 1.8 Operate load shifting equipment according to workplace procedures
2. Prepare and operate pneumatic and electric power tools
  • 2.1 Identify faults with equipment, repair within scope of own role and report to supervising personnel as required
  • 2.2 Operate pneumatic and electric power tools according to operational requirements and workplace procedures
3. Assist drill crew in running and recovery of blow out prevention stack
  • 3.1 Assist winch operator as directed
  • 3.2 Assist in positioning blow out prevention equipment
  • 3.3 Supply tools to drill floor crew as required
4. Provide labour for loading and unloading transport
  • 4.1 Identify load characteristics and confirm load characteristics and transport capacity meet approved parameters
  • 4.2 Assess load for hazardous and dangerous goods
  • 4.3 Assist in loading and unloading equipment and materials using required lifting techniques and according to safety requirements
  • 4.4 Secure load at approved anchorage points as required for transport
5. Provide labour for making up drilling mud, fluid or air injection requirements
  • 5.1 Access and interpret safety data sheet
  • 5.2 Assist with mixing of muds, fluids or air injection requirements as required use correct manual handling techniques
  • 5.3 Use safety equipment correctly in event of personal contact with hazardous materials
