Description
This unit describes the performance outcomes, skills and knowledge required to select and maintain a personal water craft. Other related competencies such as riding a personal water craft and trip planning are defined elsewhere.

1. Select a personal water craft.
- 1.1. Identify sources where information about personal water craft selection can be gained.
- 1.2. Identify personal water craft options and justify reasons for selecting one personal water craft over another.
- 1.3. Select a personal water craft, ensuring that it meets the needs, size and proportions of the rider.
- 1.4. Select an appropriate personal water craft dealer.
2. Set up a personal water craft.
- 2.1. Select and use relevant manual or manufacturer's specifications.
- 2.2. Adjust handlebar angle to improve rider efficiency and comfort.
- 2.3. Identify the controls and main features of the craft.
- 2.4. Check other personal water craft parts to ensure functioning and safety, based on manufacturer's recommendations and organisational policies and procedures.
- 2.5. Ensure personal water craft condition meets safety and registration requirements.
3. Conduct routine maintenance on a personal water craft.
- 3.1. Identify scheduled servicing and regular maintenance tasks.
- 3.2. Identify repair tools and spare parts and carry these in an in-field repair kit when riding personal water craft.
